Loss of main electrical power (blackout) recovery

First actions on a total blackout — restore a generator and bring essential services back in the right order.

  • Confirm the blackout on the main switchboard; note any alarm that preceded it
  • Check the standby generator is available; start it locally if the auto-start failed
  • Close the generator breaker; confirm bus is live and voltage/frequency normal
  • Restore steering and navigation FIRST, then engine-room auxiliaries
  • Bring air-conditioning and galley back last to avoid a re-trip on load
  • Log the sequence, the cause if known, and any breaker that tripped
